Topic 3: Learning Styles Analysis
The interconnections of learning styles and cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical development of the students are that they all play a vital role in the connection students make to their academics to be successful. Students must feel engaged if they are to be successful in all subjects they are learning no matter their grade level. Each student's learning style that is special to that student, makes it easier for students to succeed. Physical development will come when these students can learn from the struggles they face. This will of course be different based on the grade level and subject you teach in each content area.
I would make sure to use learning styles inventory to influence or affect my planning by having questions that I ask myself about each lesson that I would be delivering. I want to make sure that each student's learning style is seen and heard in each lesson. It would be my goal that each learning style of that student can be used regardless of the lesson delivered. One instructional strategy that I could use for each learning style would be, to have a virtual aspect to the lesson as well as an audiobook option for those students that need both to be successful in the middle and high school lessons. My influence would always be open to change and it should never stay the same in each lesson in order for students to be engaged with the content being delivered.
I would evaluate and use the students’ strengths, interests, and needs for growth to influence or affect my instruction by making sure that each student has the ability to take extra time if needed on an assignment. I have this past year made sure to have all students complete a pre-assessment and post-assessment to be able to understand the student's strengths and where their needs for growth are as well. Always being flexible in our instruction is the number one way for us as educators to help students find their interests and needs for growth in each lesson.
I would address all learning styles when developing and implementing assessments for my students by looking over each lesson to make sure I have added all the learning styles as seen in the pie chart attached. Each year students' learning goals will change and even throughout the year students' learning styles might differ based on each subject and lesson. The goal would be to set up each lesson with this pie chart and before giving the lesson make sure I have targeted all areas of each of these styles in a way for students to be successful.
